One embarrassing mistake here: I used the German verb “heißen” [to mean or to be called] as modern relative of the Middle English “hight” [was named], but my example “was heißt du” in German actually means “what do you mean.” To ask someone their name, you might say “wie heißt du” [literally: how are you called?].
